Your Senior Housing Options eBook Diane Masson Steve Hartley Reviews
This is an awesome book to help seniors learn about their housing options and plan for retirement.
The author is passionate about helping seniors make smart choices, rather than waiting too long to think about their long term needs.
Many of us know someone who waited for crisis to force them into a situation they would not have chosen. So many people don't want to be "put in a home" but then fail to plan where they will live as their healthcare needs change!
This book has all the information you need to determine what choices will fit your needs and then ask all the right questions to find the perfect retirement solution!
It also includes helpful tips for people who need to start a conversation with their parents and help them make hard choices!
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend one of Diane's book presentations and meet her in person. I had been feeling fairly good about what I already knew about the industry, having just gone through the process of finding a facility for my 91-year-old mother and moving her there. Mom was--and is--very happy with the choice we made together, and that is where Diane was speaking. I'd been so impressed with our experience that my husband and I were already starting to investigate our own future options in a CCRC.
Diane's presentation was excellent--informative and fun! She quickly shattered my illusion about the extent of my knowledge on the subject, then proceeded to fill the gaps for me. It was a perfect introduction to the contents of her book, and not surprisingly she sold out of the copies she'd brought with her.
I love how she's willing to share her own family's experiences--good and bad--to help the rest of us learn from both their successes and their not-so-great choices. It's daunting to consider all the options--and the pitfalls--and her infusion of humor at strategic points, while refusing to gloss over the tough issues, keeps her readers engaged and feeling empowered to make good decisions.
My copy shows all the signs of frequent use it's dogeared and highlighted, with notes in the margins, stars and exclamation points by essential facts I never want to lose sight of. My husband and I are continuing our search for a CCRC for ourselves (in a different state--otherwise we'd go for the same one my mom loves), and I return to Diane's book over and over again, sometimes amazed that, even after all the times I've consulted it, something new will jump out at me to answer a question that hadn't occurred to me before. Also, whenever I find myself wavering from my determination to stick with full CCRCs and consider other types of facilities, a quick glance reminds me why it's best to go for the complete range of health care options.
I do occasionally still get overwhelmed with all the serious decisions that must be made, and then I turn to Diane's book not so much for information as for reassurance and the sense that we're not in this alone!
I wouldn't want to move forward into the major decisions that accompany aging in this country without Your Senior Housing Options by Diane Twohy Masson as a guide.

It was very helpful and gave me the right questions to ask as we research CCRC's.
An interesting and concise account of various housing options for seniors. Very helpful.
Covered a lot of possibilities. Helped me to make up my mind about staying in my house or moving to a CCRC. She may be slightly biased since she works in marketing a CCRC.
Very informative; have already recommended to friends, received positive comments.
This book really helped us make the decision to move to a continuing care facility. We had already looked at several facilities and discussed our options with family and friends, some who had already chosen a facility. This book really helped us sort out the many issues to consider and then quite unexpectedly, we met the author at a marketing event for one of the facilities we were considering. We have now been residents of a continuing care facility for over a year and are very pleased with our choice. We have passed the book on to friends who are facing the same decision.
